Dubrovnik 2014 – Winter Festival

With the lighting Christmas decorations the Dubrovnik Winter Festival is underway in the city, forty days with 127 events and a budget of 1.5 million Kunas, Dubrovnik will have a winter festival to rival the rest of Europe. An ice-rink, artificial snow, cultural events and Christmas concerts, over the next forty days Dubrovnik will have a truly festive feel.

“We decided to make the first Dubrovnik Winter Festival, from the first Sunday of advent until the first Sunday after Epiphany. This is a pioneering venture, similar to what we started 65 years ago with the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The aim is to offer an interesting festival for our citizens as well as tourists,” commented the Mayor of Dubrovnik. The Dubrovnik Winter Festival will be jointly organised by the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

An ice-rink will be installed in the heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik and festive chalets offering Christmas specialties will also be erected. The director of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival pointed out that this year’s festival will include classical music, theatre, singers and cultural events. “Next year we will require the support of hoteliers, Dubrovnik airport and travel agencies to make Dubrovnik come to life in the true sense of the word through winter”.
