During December 2014, all the more important destinations in Croatia saw a 4-5% increase in overnight stays and the increase in the number of arrivals was even higher, with “Advent in Zagreb” being an example of how one should work in a shoulder season, Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said on Wednesday.
“‘Advent in Zagreb’ is followed by the Snow Queen Alpine skiing event and Zagreb has many possibilities to extend the tourist season after that spectacle with some other good product,” Lorencin said in an interview with Croatian Radio.
He said that 2014 was relatively successful in terms of tourism results, noting that he had expected the number of arrivals and overnight stays to be higher.
He said that one could speak about stagnation, but that the situation could have been worse considering a decrease in the number of individual arrivals during the peak season which was marked by bad weather.
He said that new tourism slogans would be tested in January and that he expected a lot of the “Croatia 365” project, which is aimed at extending the shoulder season.
